Heart Healthy Exercise - Is A Great Combo

Heart healthy exercise is no different than any other exercise. Any exercise can help make your heart stronger, your lungs able to function better and your muscles able to burn fat better. Many people make the time to go to a gym to get their work outs in each day but what if you can't find the time or have the money to join a gym?

If you can't find the time or have the money to join a gym you can always do things at home to improve your heart health. They say that walking is the best thing you can do for your heart healthy exercise. Get out and walk at least thirty minutes a day, work up to thirty minutes if you have to but don't over do it. If you hurt yourself you will only set yourself back further. Ask a friend to go with you if you need company. Exercising with someone will keep you motivated and increase the chance you will stick to your program.

Try to carve out an extra thirty minutes to one hour of your day and devote that time to exercising. Even if you have to start your day one hour earlier and use that time to get your exercise in. Do not worry that you are shorting yourself some sleep because if you are getting in shape your body will need less sleep than it does now. Studies have shown that the better shape you are in the less sleep your body needs because your body is using what you give it a lot more efficiently.

If you can't bring yourself to part with your precious sleep then why not go for a walk on your lunch hour at work. Or, research exercises that can be done at your desk when it is break time. There are several that have been developed for people who can't find any other time to exercise. The trick is to just keep moving, doing something, no matter how little or how much, is the key to getting in shape and making your body and heart stronger.

When walking has made you stronger you may want to up the ante some and try out a work out DVD in your living room. Do not be bashful, if you are worried that someone will see you and laugh at you because you can't keep up just draw the blinds and do your best to learn the routine on the DVD. Then you can be the one laughing because you have gotten in shape and lost the weight and the ones who laughed are still out of shape and fat.

If you do not want to buy a work out DVD then go to your local video store and rent one. Rent several until you find one you like and then buy it. Get yourself a good mp3 player and download some awesome work out music to listen to during your work outs. Music is a great motivator and can make your heart healthy exercise a whole lot more interesting. Read More..

Hangover Vitamin - Yep - Kill Your Hangover

There is one hangover vitamin you should take if you plan to drink too much and want to avoid a hangover and that is a B-complex vitamin. Obviously, the best way to prevent a hangover is to not drink at all but if that is not an option and you want to go out every now and then to tie one on then prevent your hangover with a B-complex vitamin.

In truth, a B-Complex vitamin is a combination of eight different vitamins including folic acid, biotin, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, and cyanocobalamin. Granted these are all found in the food we eat everyday but if you do tie one on and expect a hangover the next morning then an extra pill or two may be necessary to prevent it and give you an energy boost.

The way to make this as effective as possible is to:

1. Stay hydrated. This is important because alcohol will cause you be dehydrated and can increase your risk of getting a really bad hangover. Another benefit of drinking plenty of water is that you will be drinking less alcochol and may not drink too much in the first place.

2. Take a B-Complex vitamin when you wake up the morning before the night you want to go out. Take it with a full glass of water and eat a good breakfast.

3. Continue to drink water throughout your day and take another B-Complex vitamin after you eat some lunch, again, with a full glass of water.

4. Keep a B-Complex in your pocket when you go out and take the hangover vitamin when you are ready to have your last drink. Just drink it with a full glass of water, not the other drink you have in your hand. Vitamin B-Complex will help restore your energy while you sleep. Either before you go out or while you are out, get some food into your stomach. Food slows down the absorption of alcohol by 80%.

5. When you wake up in the morning, take another B-Complex vitamin with as much water as you can handle. You will probably feel fine but this last vitamin can't hurt.

You may be wondering why B-Complex vitamin works. Well, it is just the way these vitamins work in your body. The thiamine works to calm your nervous system and helps metabolize any alcohol left in your system. Riboflavin works to lessen the red eyes of the morning after. Niacin helps break down the food you ate late, pyridoxine works to lessen any cramping from dehydration and cyanocobalamin works to fortify your red blood cells.

Do not forget the most important thing here, drink lots of water. The B-Complex vitamin will work so much better if you are not dehydrated to begin with. In fact the B-Complex vitamin needs water to work effectively in your system. This is because they are what's called water soluble vitamins so they need the water to dissolve in to become an effective hangover vitamin. Read More..

Effective Home Remedy For Ear Infections

Before I begin writing about home remedies for ear infections I just want to say that these remedies are to assist with pain relief associated with ear infections.  These home remedies should in now way substitute proper medical treatment if it is required.  If the pain of ear infection is very severe and does not seem to be subsiding then you need to get a proper diagnosis and medical treatment.

Home remedies are very effective for relieving pressure and pain associated with ear infections.  If the infection is mild then home remedies may be all that you need to treat the infection with.  These are some of the remedies for ear infections that you can use at home.

Our first home remedy is one that you should have the ingredients for in your kitchen.  You will need some onion, garlic and olive oil.  Onions and garlic both have very good natural healing agents and can assist with killing bacterial.  First you need to cook the onion and garlic in some olive oil, just cook over a low heat. When the ingredients have reduced you then need to strain them so you are just left with the liquid oil, then pour this oil into a clean container.  Then apply just a few drops of the onion, garlic oil into the problem ear.  This remedy is one of the best for ear infections and works really well.

Another remedy from the kitchen simply uses some lemon juice.  Just apply a few drops of undiluted lemon juice into the sore ear and the acidity in the juice neutralizes and kills the bacteria. This is also a very effective remedy for ear infections.

White vinegar is another remedy straight from the kitchen that works well.  You will need a mixture of 50% white vinegar and 50% water.  Apply four or five drops into the infected ear a few times a day and you will soon see results.

Hydrogen peroxide is our next remedy which is often used on a grazed knee to kill any germs that might occur.  Although this is a common use for Hydrogen peroxide but most people don't realize that you can also use it for ear infections.  Because this has bubbles, it not only kills germs but it also loosens any blockage and helps clear the ear.

Our next remedy is one that will help to relieve the pain of ear infection.  Using a warm compress against the sore ear can help ease the pain.  You can use a wheat bag heated up or if you don't have a wheat bag you can put some rice into a sock, tie the top so the rice can't spill out and heat it in the microwave for about a minute.

When using home remedies for ear infections just remember that the ear is quite a sensitive part of the body so you don't want to use anything that will irritate the skin.  Bleach and other chemicals are a bad choice so stick to more natural products.  You also don't want to go sticking anything into the ear to try and remove blockage as this would be quite painful and could cause damage to the ear.

The remedies mentioned in this article are ones that have been used for years and have proven to be quite effective.  What works for one person might not work for another though so if one remedy doesn't work then try another.  Remember, if the pain persists to consult your doctor. Read More..

Eating Healthy - Simple Tricks To Stay On Trac

We are heading into the holiday season and you know what that means, eating healthy is going to start getting a little tougher to do. It's not impossible, just a little more challenging. To help you stay on track try some simple 'tricks'.

There are many things you can do to make sure you eat better besides just your foods. Remember too, that it's not just about eating healthy, it's also about how much exercise you get. So, if you know you are going to splurge on your holiday meal, or just on a Friday night, you can 'undo' some of the bad side effects by working a little harder. So if you normally spend 30 minutes in the gym, you may want to do a little extra.

Another great strategy is to simply get right back up on the wagon if you fall off. Every day is a new beginning to your weight loss efforts. One day here and one day there isn't going to completely undo all your hard work, as long as those 'slips' do not happen too often.

So, what should you eat? Well, to a degree that will depend on you and your overall health and whether or not you have any underlying health concerns. If you do, you may want to talk to your doctor to help you set up a healthy diet plan.

For the most part, though, a healthy diet will consist of eating mostly natural foods. Try to stay away from eating too many processed foods. Many people will go to the store and pick up a bunch of frozen 'diet' dinners. This isn't really all bad except that whenever you eat prepared food there are usually a lot of preservatives and sodium in them. It is always better to make your dinner from scratch using only fresh ingredients.

To take it up a notch try to eat only organic foods. There are more and more organic stores popping up all around the country, I live in a very small town and we even have an organic food store.

When you eat foods like rice, pasta or bread stay away from the 'white stuff'. White bread, white rice and regular pasta do not add anything to your diet but they can add a lot to your hips. Instead eat whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta and brown rice.

Do not underestimate the number of calories that are in fruit juices either. Many people will think that they are getting some helpful fruit into their diet by drinking fruit juices, but in many cases they are adding hundreds of extra calories a day.

One last tip, drink enough water. Most people in this country are actually dehydrated. A good rule of thumb is to remember that by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. It is recommended that you drink half your body weight in ounces of water everyday.

Eating healthy does not have to be a chore. Some simple daily changes in your diet can have a huge impact, for the good, on your health. Start small and you can build up from there. Read More..

Ear Infection Remedies For Your Home

Infections are something that people have had to deal with for hundreds of years and while today we have antibiotics that will help clear up infections, many years ago they did not and had to rely on their own natural remedies to treat infections.  Although these days we can go and get a prescription for some antibiotics, there are still many people that prefer to use home remedies whenever they can.  Of course you should still seek medication attention if needed, but home remedies certainly do have their place.

Ear infections are one of the most common types of infections in children and they can range from mild infections to very excruciating severe infections.  Here are some home remedies that can help to relieve the pain of earn infections.

Have you ever felt hopeless when your child has woken during the night, holding their ear and crying with pain?  The middle of the night certainly isn't the best time to go and see a doctor and unfortunately this is often when the pain of an ear infection starts.  It is these situations where home remedies can be very useful.

Home remedies usually won't cure an ear infection, unless it is a very mild ear infection.  However they will ease the pain and give the child some relief.  Using a home remedy during the night can help give relief for the child until you can visit a doctor in the morning.

Holding a hot water bottle over the sore ear can help to provide pain relief.  Strangely enough, some also swear by holding a bag of salt over the problem ear for relieving pain.

One herbal oil that is known to fight off infection is Tea Tree Oil.  This can be a great choice to help manage and cure the ear infection, however in some people it can irritate the skin and is not suitable. If your child can tolerate Tea Tree Oil on their skin then this can be very helpful.

There are other home remedies that work just as well but don't have the side effect that Tea Tree Oil has.  One such extract is Otikon which is made with a few different plant extracts.  The plant extracts used in Otikon produce an anesthetic property so it is a fantastic choice for pain relief.

There is another remedy that is sometimes told as a good method when in fact it is not, so this is one that you should be wary off and not use.  This remedy is called 'ear candling' and it is a process where a cone made out of wax-covered paper (this is the candle) is inserted into the ear.  It is then lit and this is supposed to draw out the infection.  This method does not work and in fact is quite dangerous and can cause more serious medical problems.  Please do not ever consider using this method as your poor child could end up with more problems than just an ear infection.

Ear infections if not treated can get much worse and lead to more serious problems.  If an infection is minor then home remedies may be enough to treat the infection, but usually you should just use home remedies as a temporary treatment to ease the pain until you can seek proper medical attention. Desktop Games To Relieve Stress

Stress was a useful response early in our human development, it would help us to run away or stay and fight. However, in the modern world, stress takes its toll on our bodies and minds. And today most of that stress seems to come from one source more than any other: the workplace. The demands, distractions and deadlines all add up and make things more difficult than they really should be. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to reduce that stress. One such way is by playing desktop games. They are a convenient way to relax a bit during your breaks, and can be played right at your desk.

The reason playing desktop games is so good at reducing stress is because they turn your mental focus away from whatever it is that's stressing you out. Games are also a wonderful way to pass the time with friends and family. Add technology to these basic ideas and the options for playing games are more diverse and accessible than ever before.

There are desktop games for virtually every taste. Some are made specifically to be played on the computer, such as Tower Defense, Online Paintball and Desktop Destroyer. These action packed games are all fun ways to help you get through an otherwise stressful day at work, or at home.

Perhaps you don't like to relieve stress by taking out your frustrations in  game, but prefer to engage in mental pursuits to calm yourself down. The good news is that there are no shortage of those types of games either. Crossword puzzles, Sudoku, solitaire, word games and many other mental games can also be found online. The real key is to reducing stress is to change what you are thinking about, and games demand more of your attention, giving you a chance to forget about things for a while.

While exercise isn't really a game, it is something you can do while you are sitting at your desk. This is also a good way to relieve stress. You need to make yourself take a break from things from time to time. Whether your desktop games involve venting your anger, challenging your mind, or moving around a bit; it's important to do something to get your stress under control.

Desktop games are a wonderful way to help relax and take your mind off of things. You don't have to go anywhere special, or dress into different clothes before you start to play. Letting stress build up can take a major toll on your health, and is responsible for any number of various medical problems. Playing games is fun, and it can also help to keep you healthy. Now if that isn't a good reason to play more often, then I don't know what is.

Cures Hangover - Why Suffer - You Dont

If you have overdone it and need something now that cures hangover symptoms, read on. If you didn't take proper precautions before you went out drinking, then you will need to treat the symptoms the morning after.

First, drink some water. Do not make it too cold and take it slowly or your stomach will rebel and the water will come right back up. Drink as much as you can to begin re-hydrating yourself, alcohol has a drying effect on the human body so you need to rehydrate as soon as possible.

Next, get some caffeine into your system. Caffeine will help the headache, especially if you take it with some over the counter pain reliever. If coffee isn't your drink then have some cold pop on hand for the morning after. If you do not have to leave your house, make the coffee and put a shot of Bailey's in it, Irish Creme Coffee cures hangover symptoms.

A nice hot shower should do the trick, too. Just let the hot water flow down over you. Have your shower hot enough to create lots of steam. The steam will open your pores and help all the toxins get washed away. Letting the water beat on your neck and shoulders will also help with that nasty headache.

If you can stomach it, have a light breakfast that is high in protein and low in fat. Eggs and toast with a little butter would be perfect. Stay away from the milk and other dairy products they will only contribute to the nausea and may cause you to vomit.

Of course there is that, too. some people need to vomit to begin to feel human again but if you are like me and you can't stand the thought of doing that then take it easy and be sure to follow the all steps above for your hangover relief.

Remember to keep drinking the water throughout your day. Stay hydrated, the more you drink the more you will have to go to the bathroom during the day and this will help flush out the bad stuff and make you feel better sooner.

To help with the re-hydration you could also get a sports drink, this will help you replenish vital electrolytes that your body needs to function properly. Remember that sports drinks are loaded with sugar to fuel your muscles during and after a strenuous workout so if sugary drinks are not for you then stay away from them.

Each of these tips will help you get rid of your hangover in a timely manner and you should feel better as the day goes on. Which brings me to the last, best thing that cures hangover symptoms, time. Time is the best thing you can give yourself after a night of over-indulgence. Every hour that goes by you will feel better and better. Throw in a nap or just take it easy on the couch and soon you will be back to your old self. Read More..

All About Ear Infections And Home Remedies

Unfortunately ear infections are quite common, particularly in children.  The ear canal is one of the most susceptible parts of the body to fungal and bacterial infections.  It is estimated that over twenty million visits to pediatricians are for ear infections.

Although ear infections are more common in young children, adults can also suffer from them.  In fact, some adults are prone to ear infections and will get them quite frequently.  Those who suffer from earn infections regularly might be interested to read on and learn more about ear infection symptoms. causes and home remedies to treat them.

An ear infection in medical terms is known as 'otitis media'.  An infection will occur directly behind the eardrum and is usually caused by bacteria which has come from an outside source.  Ear infection often occurs when a person has a cold and blocked Eustachian tubes and bacteria can then form within the tubes.  Another source of earn infection is excess moisture in the ear, usually water remaining in the ear following swimming, which has resulted in the ear being more susceptible to bacteria.

As part of the ear's regular physiological process, the Eustachian tubes will drain any fluid accumulating within it.  If the tubes do not drain or are blocked, which can offer occur during a bout of the common cold, then an ear infection may develop.

These are the basics of what causes ear infections, now let's take a look at some of the symptoms.  Pain is by far the most noticeable symptom.  Pain that accompanies an ear infection can be quite mild or it can be excruciating.  In some cases there may be discharge from the ear but not always.  Fever may also be present with earn infections and some people will experience loss of balance or dizziness, this occurs because the ear is responsible for our sense of balance.

There are a number of ways to treat ear infections and antibiotics are often prescribed if you see a doctor.  However, depending on when symptoms begin with an ear infection, a person isn't always able to see their doctor immediately.  If, for example, pain begins at night, they may not be able to visit a doctor until the morning.  In the meantime their ear infection can be causing a great deal of pain and so they need some pain relief.

When you have to wait a significant amount of time, this is when home remedies can come in handy.  You can use over-the-counter ear drops if you have any on hand, but if not there are some remedies you can make using ingredients that yo might have in the kitchen.

A few drops of lemon juice in the sore ear can relieve pain and also stop the infection in it's tracks.  A mixture of 50% water and 50% vinegar will also have a similar effect.  Cooking garlic in olive oil, draining, let cool and then apply a few drops into the ear will also help to relieve pain.

These are just a few home remedies that you can try if you are not able to get to a doctor for some time.  It is always best to see a doctor when you can to get a proper diagnosis. Read More..

6 Exercise Tips That Really Work

Sorry, there's just no way around it, if you want to get in shape you have to eat well and get a lot of regular exercise. A pill isn't going to do it all for you. Of course, you want to optimize the results you get from your exercise routine and these exercise tips will help you do just that.

Before you start an exercise program make sure that you talk to your doctor. This is particularly important if you're really overweight and haven't spent much time working out or if you have some underlying health problems. Ask your doctor what you need to do to modify an exercise routine so you can work around those issues.

Here are some exercise tips that you should keep in mind and you will get more out of your workouts:

1. If possible, work out with a friend. It is much easier to stick with a workout routine if you and your friend are doing it together. There is a certain amount of peer pressure, neither of you wants to be the undisciplined one and neither of you wants to let the other one down.

2. If you are new to working out try to find a trainer to work with at least until you get a good routine worked out. After you've gotten the basics mastered you can either continue to work out with the trainer (this can be another great motivator) or, if your budget is tight you can give up the personal trainer and do it yourself.

3. Do not go nuts on the cardio aspect of your workout. Many people make this mistake. They think that spending a lot of time on the treadmill or the elliptical is good, and it is, but the problem is that your body gets used to that level of exertion and eventually your results will actually go down.

4. This one goes along with number 3, do several types of cardio exercises. Don't allow your body to get too used to a certain routine. You should change your workout routine at least every 6 weeks or so. This will really maximize your results. Another benefit of changing things up regularly is that you will lessen repetitive motion injuries that occur, you guessed it, when you do the same movements over and over again.

5. When you do weight training (and everyone should, yes, even women) don't make the mistake of going too fast when you do a repetition.  Many people go so fast that they are actually allowing momentum to do most of the work for them. This greatly decreases the effectiveness of the exercise. You want a very slow and controlled movement. Not only will you get the most out of the exercise you will also lessen the chances of injuring yourself.

6. You may not hear this one too often, but if you are in a time crunch and you can't really do a full workout (some cardio and weight training) and you have to pick one or the other, choose the weight portion of your workout. Weight training will also have a cardiovascular benefit and the boost in metabolism you get by weight training will last you long after your workout is over.

I hope you have found these exercise tips to be helpful. To really be successful in your workout routine, it's important that you find something that you really enjoy doing and then just stick with it. Read More..

3 Easy Ways To Relieve Insomnia Starting Tonight

If you are one of the millions of people that are suffering from insomnia, then you should know that there are some things you can do to make it less of a problem. While many turn to prescription medications, they don't always work and they can have a big impact on your health and your pocketbook. Not to worry, there are other ways to combat sleeplessness and we will look at some of the best ones in this article.

There are many causes of insomnia, with hormonal imbalance and stress being two of the biggest culprits. While the items below will help in a lot of cases, your case may be more severe. If so, then see your doctor as a prescription may be your best alternative. But, before you go that route, try these things first:

1. Loosen up - Okay, I'll be the first to admit that this is easier said than done, but it is the first step to beating insomnia. We all have things to worry about, but you have to find a way to let those things go before bedtime. In fact, by purposely forgetting them before retiring for the evening, you may actually solve those problems while you sleep. However, if you go to bed with the intention of solving a hard problem, then your subconscious will work differently by trying to keep you awake to solve. It all sounds counter-intuitive, but you have the best chance of solving your problems by not worrying about them before bed. At the same time, it's vital that you don't worry about how much sleep you will or won't get. Focusing on your insomnia is about the surest way to have insomnia. The key is to do things to help you unwind, to help you shift from the cares of the day to preparing to sleep.

2. Stay healthy - Exercising too close to bedtime will only serve to make it harder to fall asleep. However if you exercise several hours earlier, your body will be more ready to sleep. Eating well is important to your overall health, and this extends to how well sleep. The healthier you are, the better you will sleep. Also, sleeping well is part of being healthy, so you will see a difference if you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

3. Learn relaxation techniques - There are many different techniques designed to help people relax and sleep better. You can purchase audio programs that use a form of guided meditation to help you drift off into a deep and restorative sleep. You can also try the following technique on your own: As you lie in bed start at your toes and release all of the energy from them, letting them melt right into your mattress. Then move up to your feet, ankles, calves, knees, and all the way up to the top of your head. As you do this, you will be letting go of the tension you have built up over the course of your day and drifting off to sleep before you know it.

Exercise To Relieve Stress And Lose Weight

If you have been paying attention to the news lately, you have probably noticed two things: people are getting heavier, and they are experiencing a lot more stress. It's hard to imagine that this is a simple coincidence. In fact, a lot of of the complications of obesity and stress are the same. The good news is that there may be a single solution to both problems, and that is exercise. Exercise can help you lose weight by burning calories, and it can also help relieve stress by releasing feel-good chemicals known as endorphins. Let's look at both of these benefits of exercise in a bit more detail.

The more you weigh, the more physical stress you will put on your body. The question is whether or not that physical stress translates into mental stress. Unfortunately, there is no solid answer to that question yet. However, there is plenty of evidence that losing weight is one of the most important things you can do to improve your health. And you can only lose weight by burning more calories than you take in. One way to accomplish this is through exercise. You don't even have to do that much of it. As few as 30 minutes per day, most days of the week, can start to add up. What you do for exercise isn't all that important. What counts is that you are getting active and burning off some of those extra calories.

Exercise can also reduce your level of stress by releasing endorphins. These are chemical that make you feel good, and are responsible for what's known as "runner's high". Endorphins are somewhat similar to morphine, and will help to relieve stress.

When you make exercise a part of your normal routine, the endorphins will be released more often, and you will get the stress-relieving benefits more often, too. This good feeling isn't just there during the workout, but it can last for several hours after you are finished exercising. There is also something therapeutic about exercise, as it helps you blow of steam. All of those little frustrations you face every day suddenly start to vanish. This beats the alternative of letting all of the frustration build up until you explode in an uncontrollable (and potentially dangerous) fit of rage.

Getting rid of frustration in a healthy manner is so much better than doing other things. Exercise is a natural way to handle stress, so there's no need to take questionable medications or engage in risky behaviors to forget about your troubles. If you have a lot of stress to get rid of, then have a more intensive workout. On the other hand, if you would just like to have a lower level of stress overall, then regular exercise is a smart choice. It can help you lose weight, relieve stress and be healthier, too.
